Hey Shaun thank you very much - absolutely spot on! ! Dumbo me - I now recall changing that setting last month whilst I was grappling with another problem in a different bit of vba code.
Thanks much for taking the time to examine and explain the solution. Fact is I made a rookie mistake by using regular brackets instead of square brackets to define the column name.
