MailboxCreationTime – Get the mailbox creation timestamp from a Microsoft Exchange Server

Written in 2009 for the Windows versions of the time. Check that the tool or steps still suit your environment before using them.

Prerequisites

  • Account with full mailbox rights
  • Microsoft Exchange Server

MailboxCreationTime by Shaun Vermaak (modified from broken script by unknown author) is a script to get the mailbox creation timestamp from a Microsoft Exchange Server.

Note that it must be executed in the context of an user account that has full mailbox rights

Usage: CScript.exe MailboxCreationTime.vbs /ServerName:SERVERNAME

How to Use It

It finds every mailbox homed on the named Exchange server in Active Directory, opens each one through CDO (MAPI.Session) and reads a timestamp from the mailbox's non-IPM root folder.

CScript.exe //nologo MailboxCreationTime.vbs /ServerName:EXCH01

/ServerName: must be the Exchange server's name as it appears in Active Directory. The results go to SERVERNAME.txt in the current folder, not to the screen. An existing file is overwritten. The file is tab-separated with the columns ServerName, DisplayName, MailboxAlias and CreationTime. A display name in "Last, First" form is turned into "First Last". Mailboxes that cannot be opened show Error Opening Mailbox.

Note: CDO must be installed on the computer that runs the script, because it uses CreateObject("MAPI.Session"). Mailboxes hidden from address lists are skipped. The timestamp read is the folder's NT security descriptor modification time (property 0x3FD60040).
